• Weather Summary for April 2025

    April 2025 was a little warmer than average but quite a bit drier than usual. The average temperature was 47.1 degrees, about 1.2 degrees above average, mainly due to some warm high temperatures during the month.

    Precipitation totaled 0.34 inches at my northside location, more than a half inch below average. Most areas in the central and southern part of the valley recorded a little less, generally around a quarter of inch or so. Snowfall for the month was 2.5 inches, just a little bit below average.

    Most of the precipitation fell on just 2 days – on the 5th and 19th as cold fronts moved through the region, producing brief rain then changing to snow.

    The month started off cool for the first week, with highs in the 40s to low 50s, and a daily record cold high of 34 degrees was set on the 5th. It quickly warmed up through the second week however, as highs rose into the 60s and 70s. Record warm high daily high temperatures occurred on the 11th (77 deg) and 12th (79 deg).

    Warm temperatures in the upper 60s to mid 70s continued through the 17th, but quickly cooled down from the 18th to 20th as a strong cold front moved through the region, with rain and snow showers on 19th. The last 10 days of the month were dry with highs in the 60s to mid 70s.

    The warmest high was 79 degrees on the 12th, while the coldest high was 34 degrees on the 5th. The coldest low was 15 degrees on the 6th, while the warmest low was 42 degrees on the 13th.

    Overall wind speeds for the month were about average, but there were still a few days that were quite windy – namely the 1st, 17th, 19th, and 27th. There were 9 days that had gusts of 35 mph or higher, with the highest gust of 47 mph occurring on the 1st.

  • Weather Summary for March 2025

    March 2025 was warmer than average with about the usual precipitation for the month. The average temperature was 40.8 degrees, about 2.7 degrees above average, mainly due to warm high temperatures during the month.

    Precipitation totaled 0.81 inches at my northside location, just 0.05 inches below average. Most areas in the valley recorded a little less, in the 0.50 to 0.75 of an inch range. Snowfall for the month was 7.5 inches, about an inch above average.

    Most of the precipitation fell during 3 periods during the first half of the month – on the 3rd and 4th, the 7th and 8th, and the 14th and 15th. By far the biggest storm occurred on the 7th and 8th, with over a half inch of precipitation falling as about 5 inches of snow.

    The month started off warm, but quickly cooled down with some showers on the above mentioned dates. As is typical during the spring, there were some wide swings in daily temperatures as weather systems moved through. Highs were mostly in the upper 40s to low 60s through the 15th, except during the 7th to 8th and 14th to 15th when highs were just in the upper 30s to mid 40s.

    Mainly dry conditions occurred during the last half of the month as temperatures gradually warmed up to well above average by the last week. A five day stretch from the 24th to the 28th had highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s, with record daily warm highs occurring on the 25th and 26th.

    The warmest high was 74 degrees on the 26th, while the coldest high was 37 degrees on the 8th. The coldest low was 9 degrees on the 20th, while the warmest low was 38 degrees on the 28th.

    Overall wind speeds for the month were about average, but there were still several days that were quite windy – namely the 3rd, 6th, 14th, and 18th. Seven days had gusts of 35 mph or higher, with the highest gust of 54 mph occurring on the 18th as a dusty cold front blew through the area.

  • Weather Summary for February 2025

    February 2025 was much warmer and drier than average. The average temperature was 38.5 degrees, about 7.4 degrees above average, making it the 3rd warmest February on record (only Feb 1907 and Feb 1995 were warmer). Precipitation totaled only 0.13 inches, which was the 6th driest on record, while snowfall was just 0.2 inches, the lowest total ever recorded for the month.

    Highs for the month averaged nearly 9 degrees above average, while lows averaged about 6 degrees above average. Precipitation for the month all fell on just one day, the 14th. There were lots of sunny warm days, especially during the first third and last third of the month.

    The month started off with some snow still on the ground from the January 29th/30th snowstorm, but that quickly melted away as temperatures soared into the mid 50s to low 60s during the first 10 days of the month. Daily record warm highs were set on the 4th and 7th. Colder air moved into the area for the next week or so, as highs dropped into the upper 30s and 40s with lows in the teens to low 20s. Rain and some snow fell on the 14th, then it started to dry out and warm up again for the last third of the month. Highs reached in the mid 50s to mid 60s during the last week of the month.

    The warmest high was 66 degrees on the 24th, while the coldest high was 37 degrees on the 12th. The coldest low was 12 degrees on the 13th, while the warmest low was 34 degrees on the 11th.

    Winds for the month were about average, with the windiest days on the 11th, 12th, and 26th. Seven days had gusts of 35 mph or higher, with the highest gust of 48 mph occurring on the 14th as some showers along a cold front blew through the area.
