March 2025 was warmer than average with about the usual precipitation for the month. The average temperature was 40.8 degrees, about 2.7 degrees above average, mainly due to warm high temperatures during the month.
Precipitation totaled 0.81 inches at my northside location, just 0.05 inches below average. Most areas in the valley recorded a little less, in the 0.50 to 0.75 of an inch range. Snowfall for the month was 7.5 inches, about an inch above average.
Most of the precipitation fell during 3 periods during the first half of the month – on the 3rd and 4th, the 7th and 8th, and the 14th and 15th. By far the biggest storm occurred on the 7th and 8th, with over a half inch of precipitation falling as about 5 inches of snow.
The month started off warm, but quickly cooled down with some showers on the above mentioned dates. As is typical during the spring, there were some wide swings in daily temperatures as weather systems moved through. Highs were mostly in the upper 40s to low 60s through the 15th, except during the 7th to 8th and 14th to 15th when highs were just in the upper 30s to mid 40s.
Mainly dry conditions occurred during the last half of the month as temperatures gradually warmed up to well above average by the last week. A five day stretch from the 24th to the 28th had highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s, with record daily warm highs occurring on the 25th and 26th.
The warmest high was 74 degrees on the 26th, while the coldest high was 37 degrees on the 8th. The coldest low was 9 degrees on the 20th, while the warmest low was 38 degrees on the 28th.
Overall wind speeds for the month were about average, but there were still several days that were quite windy – namely the 3rd, 6th, 14th, and 18th. Seven days had gusts of 35 mph or higher, with the highest gust of 54 mph occurring on the 18th as a dusty cold front blew through the area.
